In a major blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad, fast bowler Ashish Nehra has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to hamstring injury.

The 37-year-old Indian player sustained the injury during their seven-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on May 15.

Confirming the news, the club insisted that Nehra is undergoing treatment of his injury and that he would not feature in the rest of the IPL season.

"Ashish Nehra is now in consultation with a specialist orthopedic surgeon for the most appropriate course of treatment to ensure a successful return to competitive cricket. Unfortunately he will play no further part in the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad," a press release from the franchise added.

Left-arm quick Barinder Sran is likely to replace Nehra in the squad.

Nehra had been one of the key bowlers for Sunrisers Hyderabad, having scalped a total of nine wickets from eight matches he has played so far.

Sunrisers, who are currently standing at the top of the point table, will play their next match against Delhi Daredevils at Rajkumar College Ground on Friday.
