The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday alleged that the potential players of Punjab do not get good opportunities courtesy a corrupt regime in the state and said it is extremely sad to hear of the suicide of a national-level handball player in the state at a time when girls are making the nation proud in the ongoing Rio Olympics.
"The situation in Punjab is growing so grave that a handball player commits suicide for a reason that she was not given the quota she deserved, the Rs. 3000 stipend that she was entitled to, was not given to her. "Those having good contacts are given all benefits, but an excellent player who doesn't have a contact is not even given the deserved stipend and commits suicide," he added.
Highlighting the Punjab Government's failure, the AAP leader alleged that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has brought down Punjab from the first position to 27th.
Earlier on Saturday, a national-level handball player committed suicide after she was allegedly denied free hostel facility by the Khalsa College in Patiala.
