New Zealand coach Mike Hesson has said that his team would have their first Test win under captain Brendon McCullum if the weather in Dunedin had played its part.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the home side was chasing 112 to win the opening Test against the West Indies but stumbled early to lose four quick wickets, prompting a period of consolidation, and when the skies opened five minutes before tea it was still 33 runs short of victory.

Hesson said that the forecast was for showers and not the heavy downpour that set in, much to the team's chagrin, the report added.

He added that the team was getting itself back into dominant positions and therefore, the draw was frustrating.

However, Hesson is confident the team, winless in 10 Tests, is now building consistency that will reap rewards, eventually, the report further said.
