A high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review the situation in the Kashmir Valley, where one of the worst violence in recent years has left 23 people dead, is currently underway at 7 RCR in New Delhi.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, along with other senior officials and members of the Cabinet are part of the meeting.

Prime Minister Modi, who returned from his four-nation tour of Africa on Tuesday, will reportedly be apprised with the situation in the Kashmir Valley.

The Separatist groups, meanwhile, extended their strike call in Jammu and Kashmir by two more days till Wednesday.

Kashmir has been on a boil as widespread protests broke out across the valley over Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's killing. Separatists' have been calling for a shutdown ever since.

The death toll in the clashes between protesters and security forces in Kashmir mounted to 23, as normal life remained paralysed in the Valley due to curfew-like restrictions and separatists-sponsored strike in the wake of Wani's killing in an encounter earlier on July 8.
