Even though the English Premier League's official launch of the new Goal Decision System at the Emirates Stadium has got a skeptical response, with the Decision Review System controversies that have plagued the Ashes series so far, officials are confident that the system will be free of trouble.

According to The Independent, GDS will make its official debut in Sunday's FA Community Shield between Manchester United and Wigan at Wembley and seven dedicated high-resolution cameras capable of operating at 320 frames per second will focus on each goalmouth, with referees receiving a signal within less than a second via specially-designed watches and an earpiece to indicate whether the whole of the ball has crossed the line.

The equipment costs 250,000 pounds to install at every top-flight ground and clubs will be asked to foot the bill themselves, the report said.

Hawk-Eye has also been developing an instant-replay system to rule on issues such as offside, which has just begun a two-year trial in the Dutch Eredivisie, the report added.
