With Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jairam Thakur set to take over as the state chief minister, the party leaders believe that the state will largely benefit under his leadership.
"Jairam Thakur has earned his position through many years of struggle. He is also the first CM candidate from Mandi. I am sure that the things that could not be fulfilled during the previous government will be successfully completed under Thakur's tenure," BJP leader Ram Swaroop Sharma told ANI.
Echoing similar sentiments, BJP leader Satpal Singh Satti not only lauded the newly-elected chief minister, but also thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh for helping the party establish a majority in the state in the recently concluded assembly elections.
Earlier on Sunday, Jairam Thakur was announced as the next chief minister of the state, following a BJP MLAs' meet attended by party leaders including former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, Shanta Kumar and Union Minister JP Nadda.
Thakur had won from Seraj constituency by defeating Chet Ram of the Congress party in the recently-concluded assembly elections.
The newly-elected chief minister will be sworn in on December 27 in Shimla.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, and other prominent party leaders are expected to attend the ceremony.
