The New York rapper Big Bank Hank, who was a member of the Sugarhill Gang that inaugurated the history of recorded hip-hop with their single 'Rapper's Delight,' has died at the age of 57.
The performer, real name Henry Jackson, who formed the Sugarhill Gang with Master Gee and Wonder Mic, died from kidney complications due to cancer, the BBC reported.
The trio's single 'Rapper's Delight,' which is the first rap single to become a Top 40 hit, was a multi-platinum-seller and radio hit in 1979.
Wonder Mike and Master Gee in a statement that it is very sad to hear of their brother's passing, and added "Rest in peace Big Bank.
