Breathalyzer tests are being conducted across national capital New Delhi and adjoining areas by the city police on drivers out on the streets celebrating the festival of colours-Holi.
Police in the Laxmi Nagar, Prithivaraj Road and Vasant Vihar areas of the city said that the breathalyzer tests were being carried out to prevent drivers from driving their vehicles when in an intoxicated state.
Drunken driving in the national capital invites police and legal action under Section 203 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Civil Procedure Code (CPC).
This section pertains to giving false information with respect to an offence committed.-Whoever knowing or having reason to believe that an offence has been committed, gives any information respecting that offence which he knows or believes to be false, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
