The annual conference of top officials of states and union territories will be held here today to review the status of preparedness of dealing with crisis situations resulting from the forthcoming south-west monsoon and to discuss other disaster management related issues.
Representatives of concerned central ministries and organizations rendering emergency support functions will also participate besides representatives of Central Armed Police Forces.
Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh will inaugurate the conference, which will be presided over by A.K. Mangotra, Secretary (Border Management), Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will make presentations on the issues related to disaster management in the county. Agencies like the India Meteorological Department, National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Disaster Management Authority, Central Water Commission, Geological Survey of India, National Disaster Response Force and Ministry of Defence will also make presentations relating to the role of their organization for preparedness and further enhancement of the capacity to deal with disasters.
