Federal authorities in have warned law enforcement agencies across the nation about a possible attack in the United States by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) sympathizers in retaliation against U.S. strikes targeting the group in Iraq.

A joint bulletin released by the Department of Homeland Security and FBI said that although they are not aware of specific, credible threats to Homeland security yet they cannot rule out the possibility of attacks by ISIS sympathizers who have been influenced by the organization's online propaganda.

The group has captured large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria and has declared caliphate in the areas under its control.
