Hong Kong's government has reportedly decided to call off a meeting with students leading the pro-democracy movement in the city after demonstrators renewed calls to intensify the protest.

The Chief Secretary said it was impossible to have a 'constructive dialogue' after protest leaders called for an increase in efforts to occupy main protest areas, reported the BBC.

The demonstrators have been demanding a fully free election in 2017 for the post of Chief Executive, a demand that has been rejected by Beijing who wants to vet candidates for the upcoming elections.
