Pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong have reportedly renounced plans to hold a ballot over whether to accept government proposals just four hours before it was scheduled to begin on Sunday.

The student leaders said that they had decided to "adjourn" the vote following difference in opinion over its format and apologized for "a lack of discussion" with other protesters, reported the BBC.

The government represented by deputy leader Carrie Lam, has offered to send a report reflecting the views of the protesters to the Chinese government and set up a platform to facilitate dialogue over future constitutional changes.
