The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said it looks forward to a favourable and positive interpretation of the Constitution by the Delhi High Court which will hear the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's petition challenging the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification of May 21.
"At a situation when the state government is challenging the notification of MHA which has only reiterated the position that existed for the past several years, it's only natural that the courts will have to really interpret the Constitution," BJP spokesperson G V L Narsimha Rao told ANI.
"So the matter is pending before the courts and the MHA notification and the powers of LG will hopefully be examined and we look forward to a very favourable and positive interpretation of the Constitution by the Courts," he added.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification had stated that the Lieutenant Governor has primacy in postings and transfers of officers belonging to Central services.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had reacted strongly to it, saying the NDA Government at the Centre was trying to run the national capital through the 'backdoor'.
Kejriwal had also stated that the notification was indicative of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) nervousness about the Aam Aadmi Party's anti-corruption efforts.
