WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum reportedly crashed a Valentine's Day dinner that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg planned for his wife Priscilla Chan last year, just to discuss a tie-up between the two companies.

As the negotiations went on with Chan's chocolate-covered strawberries in snack, the deal was finalized for a whopping 22.9 billion dollars, which eventually trickled down to today's 19 billion dollars.

According to stuff.co.nz, the deal makes instant billionaires of Koum and another WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton, both of whom had been former Yahoo engineers and Acton had been turned down for a job at Facebook in 2009.

Although the price of the deal has flabbergasted everyone, from investors to rivals, the deal is indeed worth it for Facebook's sole aim of increasing its user growth, improve its product portfolio and expand its communication layer.
