The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the spurt of racial attacks in Bangalore on people from the North-East after the daughter of former police commissioner and member of parliament (MP) HT Sangliana's daughter Rachel allegedly faced harassment, adding that it was a matter of huge concern that the family of such an esteemed personality had to face such an assault.
According to reports, Rachel, who was shopping in a mall, faced both verbal and physical attacks by two women, while bystanders offered no help.
"It is a matter of deep shame and a huge concern that the daughter of a former police commissioner of Bangalore faces this kind of a racist attack in that city. Sangliana was also a member of the Congress and was a MP from the city," BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao told ANI.
"If there is no security for the family of a high-ranking officer and former MP, then you can understand the state of affairs in Karnataka. I hope that the state government immediately takes note of this grave incident and takes action against culprits. Similar incidents have taken place in the past. I hope the Karnataka government takes note of them," he added.
