Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has claimed that he has no particular cares to be a legend in the sport, but he hopes that kids would use the phrase for him when he retires for motorsport racing.
Hamilton is preparing for the Australian Grand Prix this weekend and the defending champion would be hoping to clinch a second consecutive Formula One title, overall his third, this season.
The Mercedes racer said that he has never ever really claimed that he was a legend, adding that he has no particular care to be a legend, insisting that it is just an opinion of people, the Mirror reported.
If Hamilton wins this year's title battle he would become only the 10th triple champion in Formula One history. Only Sir Jackie Stewart, Nelson Piquet, Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher, Sir Jack Brabham, Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Niki Lauda and Ayrton Senna, have gone further from there.
Hamilton would also be only the second three-time winner to emerge from these isles in 65 years, with more than 2,100 drivers having already tried and failed.
Then, of course, there is the other reality that he would be the first black triple Formula One champion. Some have reportedly said that it would elevate him into the ranks of former golf number one Tiger Woods and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
Hamilton admitted that he has never really looked at it like that. He claimed that when one thinks of Wood one thinks, that yes he is a 'legend', adding that if one looks at what the golfer has achieved that's incredible.
Hamilton said that ultimately, when he retires kids would look at him and, hopefully, that would be a phrase they might use for him.
