Under the support of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), the 49th Hunger Marchers' Day was observed here today at the DM College multipurpose hall.

People paid floral tributes to the portraits of Oinam Nabakumar, Laishram Chaobal, Nong-meikapam Pramodini and Waikhom Nilamani who were killed in police firing during a student stir against artificial famine on August 27, 1965.

People coming in flocks including students took out a mass rally from Pishum to DM College campus where a public meeting was held.

A mass rally was carried out where images of Nabakumar, Nilamani, Pramodini and Chaobal were seen placed in well decorated palanquins.

People were seen chanting anti-AFSPA slogans, and demanded for implementation of Inner Line Permit System ( ILP ). They also protested against government's policy of keeping several hectares of paddy fields inundated, and also raised slogans against unrestrained influx of immigrants etc.
