In an attempt to curb the menace of drunk driving across the city, Hyderabad Traffic Police on Friday announced that it has added more personnel to their team in order to keep an eye on commuters who breach the law.

The Hyderabad traffic police is also conducting weekly awareness programmes aimed at creating awareness about evils of drunk driving.

Speaking to ANI, Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner Traffic, Hyderabad City, said: "Hyderabad roads are safer now for the commuters. This year, so far we have booked 21,500 drunken driving cases, out of which in 3895 cases the drivers have been imprisoned and 1200 driving licenses have been cancelled by the court. This drive will continue further and we will ensure the safety of the commuters."

Elaborating on the initiatives undertaken by his department for making people aware about the rules and regulations, Kumar added that the traffic cops are also making efforts to stop people from using variant sirens in order to reduce noise pollution.

"As per the latest Supreme Court guidelines, only emergency vehicles like ambulances, fire tenders, and police vehicles are allowed to use sirens. Some motorists in the city are using different kinds of sirens which is creating too much of noise pollution," he noted.

The Hyderabad police has also launched a mobile application named 'HAWK EYE' to empower the common commuter be making them Citizen Police. This application helps commuters to be in touch with the police as and when required.
