New data suggested that although cardiovascular risk factors like hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes is decreasing in United States and Europe but apparently it is dominating Asian countries, particularly Japan.

Masafumi Kitakaze, guest editor of American College of Cardiology, mentioned that as per the data from epidemiological studies and a health program launched by the Japanese government, heart diseases and factors have become more prominent in Japan and China over more than a decade as more number of hypertension incidences have been registered.

On the other hand, data showed that coronary artery disease-related mortality is lowering in United States and this was because of the reductions in risk factors and the promotion of treatments.

Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D., Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, said that by combining data collection with clinical trials, not only in Japan but in Asia and around the world, the cardiovascular community could continue to develop new treatments and improve outcomes for patients.

The evidences are published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
