Ellen DeGeneres' wife Portia de Rossi has opened up about her struggle to come to terms with her sexuality, saying that she didn't want to be a lesbian.

Rossi said on 'The Conversation With Amanda De Cadenet' that she had never met a lesbian for the start and she thought they were strange, who hated men and were very serious, the Huffington Post reported.

She said that she had ridiculous images in her head and that there were no notable famous lesbian figures for her to admire and follow.

Rossi said that having to hide the truth about her sexuality ruined her and she had a series of mini-heartbreaks throughout her teens because her best friend didn't share the same fantasy as her about their lives together.

She insisted that it was until she 18-years-old that she realized she needed to see other lesbians to fulfill her fantasies.

Rossi public came out of the closet in 2005.
