The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly been wary of the moves initiated by Indian business giant Essel Group as the conglomerate sets up mysterious registration of companies in test-playing nations, in an attempt to create a potential rebel league and threaten the current establishment.
Essel, which is owned by billionaire media baron Subhash Chandra, was the main promoter behind the ill-fated Indian Cricket League, the rebel predecessor to the Indian Premier League.
According to reports, the business giant is trying to register the name New Zealand Cricket Limited, and has already registered the company Australian Cricket Control Pty Ltd.
Describing the development as a concern, a Cricket Australia spokesman said that they were certainly aware of the registration, adding that the ICC has been informed and the matter is being investigated, Stuff.co.nz reported.
In addition, it is believed to have similarly established company names in other full and associate member countries.
