Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday expressed her concern over the violation of constitutional values and subtly reminded the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that they played no role in the formation of the Constitution.
Gandhi, who was speaking during the discussion on commitment to India's Constitution in the Lok Sabha, said the ideals and principles which are embedded in the Constitution and inspired the leaders are now under attack.
The Congress president asserted that there is no alternative whatsoever to constitutional methods.
"During the last few months, what is happening is against what makers of the Constitution had conceived. Those who have no faith in the Constitution and also had no role in its making are chanting its name," she said.
"The Indian Constitution is flexible and has gone through over one hundred amendments so far. Working of a Constitution does not depend wholly upon its nature, but how it is implemented. Even a good Constitution may turnout bad if those who are responsible for its implementation happens to be bad," she added.
The Congress president lauded the contributions of Dr. B R Ambedkar, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in the making of the Constitution.
