A Saudi cleric has claimed and reasoned his theory that Earth is stationary and does not revolves around the Sun.
In a recent video, when a student questioned Sheikh Bandar al-Khaibari about whether the Earth was stationary or moving, he responded saying "stationary and does not move," the Express Tribune reported.
He further supported his bizarre theory by quoting some clerics, presenting some religious statements, and then argued by saying "If a plane stops still in the air, China would be coming towards Earth in case the Earth rotates in one direction."
"If the Earth rotates in the opposite direction, the plane would never reach China, because China is also rotating," he added.
The weird statements sparked a wave of social media remarks across the globe so much, that a new hashtag "#cleric_rejects_rotation_of_Earth" started trending on Twitter.
While one user said "made so laugh must be joke hello we are in 21st century they have proved that long time ago sorry u late!" another added "Now we know the source of Saudi #moonsighting problem, #cleric_rejects_rotation_of_Earth."
