A week-long state level aquarium exhibition-cum-flower show was recently organized by the Manipur Science and Technology Council.

Aquarium and floriculture entrepreneurs attended the event at the Manipur Science Aquarium in the D M College campus.

It was organised with an aim to popularise aquarium and floriculture in the state, and to encourage entrepreneurs in the area.

The exhibition showcased rare varieties of aquatic and a wide range of ornamental fish and underwater plants.

A total of 84 fish species, including 28 species of indigenous fish and 56 species of exotic fish, were put up on display. At least 36 endangered species of fish of Manipur were also exhibited.

About 124 plant species were also showcased by floriculturists. The event attracted a large number of visitors.

Laishram Nilakumar Singh, an officer attached with the Department of Fisheries, said: "We thought it is high time that the people should understand the importance of our indigenous ornamental fish and ornamental flowers. We want to focus on this. At the same time in both aquarium and floriculture, new entrepreneurs should come up for the socio-economic development of the state.
