A fish fair-cum-competition was recently organised in Imphal to promote the fish business and to provide fishermen with a platform to sell their fish at remunerative prices.
Organised by the state Directorate of Fisheries, the annual event is held ahead of the 'Ningol Chakouba' festival, which is celebrated by inviting married daughters to their parental homes for a grand feast.
People came in large numbers to buy different varieties of fish, including Catla, Rohu, Pengba, Common Carp and Ngaton.
"This fair is really helpful. In this fair, different varieties of fish are available. We get what we want that too at discounted rates. Earlier, there were no such provisions. But this event organised by the fishery department is really helpful for the public," said a visitor, Kamla.
The fair has been organised every year since 1976. The Ningol Chakouba festival is celebrated the Meitei community of Manipur.
