An Indian radiographer who was hired by Colchester General Hospital after an interview on Skype has been sacked within two months owing to 'serious incompetence' at work.

According to The Sun, Manik Sharma was given a 34,000 pounds contract but after repeated complaints about his 'lack of fundamental understanding' he was dismissed from the services.

Sharma reportedly walked out on his cancer patients to make phone calls, and hence amidst fear of putting the patients at risk he was reported to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

According to the report, HCPC suspended him from working in UK hospitals for a year.

HCPC panel chairman Stephen Fash said that Sharma needed to be under constant supervision and a number of serious 'deficiencies' in his practice were identified.

Colchester General Hospital's trust spokesperson said that Sharma, who is believed to be currently working in India, was 'dismissed on grounds of capability', the report added.
