After prolonged winter season, a sudden increase was seen in the demand of flower saplings and seasonal plants during the spring season in Jammu and Kashmir.
"Last year we kept around 1500 varieties. This year we have 2000 varieties of flower saplings. We are increasing variety everyday because a lot of new varieties are available. We have outdoor and indoor plants. We also have fruit flowerings with us," said Muhammad Lateef, a shopkeeper.
Meanwhile, enthusiast gardeners and residents thronged markets to buy colourful and seasonal plants.
"Sowing more plants controls air pollution in the city. The flowers add essence into our life and it beautifies houses and gardens. Deforestation creates major impact on our environment. Pollution can be mitigated through more flora," said Abdul Hameed, a resident.
Flower vendors enjoyed good business returns through the sale of flower saplings and seasonal plant, which bloom during this period.
For past few years the demand of flower saplings is increasing at large scale due to the new and attractive varieties. The colourful flower saplings which include daffodils and tulips are brought from local as well as national markets.
