Accepting its defeat in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls, the Congress on Thursday said that increased vote share in their basket as compared to the last elections has proven that the people of Delhi believe in the ideology of the grand old party.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the increase in vote share from 9.5 percent to 20 percent has proved the confidence that the people of Delhi have on the Congress.
He further asserted that the Congress will mark victory in Delhi in the coming future.
"It has proved that the people of Delhi believe in the ideology and policies of the Congress. However, it has also given us instructions that we need to put in more hardwork and have to act as constructive opposition. We have full belief that the Congress will mark victory in Delhi," Surjewala told ANI.
Responding to a poser on Congress Delhi in-charge Ajay Maken's resignation, another Congress leader Ajoy Kumar said the increase in vote share should be owed to the former Delhi Congress president's efforts.
"The Congress secured 9 percent votes in the last assembly elections. We got it to 20 percent by the efforts of Ajay Maken and other Congress members. We believe that the efforts made by Ajay Maken to win the confidence of Delhi will benefit us in the future. We would like to thank Maken for his efforts and determination," Kumar told ANI.
