ICC match referee Chris Broad has rated the pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which hosted the second Test between Australia and India last week, as 'below average'.

According to reports, the ICC match referee rated the pitch below average while outfield was termed 'very good'. Broad's inference was drawn from the fact that pitch had variable bounce. The 'below average' rating does not carry any penalty or fine.

It is considered to be a better rating than poor or unfit for play which can bring in hefty sanction by the game's governing body.

Broad has earlier rated the pitch for the Pune Test, which ended in just three days, as 'poor'.

India, which lost the first Test of the ongoing four-match series by 333 runs, bounced back strongly and registered an emphatic 75-run victory in the second Test.

The third Test begins tomorrow in Ranchi at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, which would be making its Test debut.
