India and Japan on Saturday agreed to cooperate with each other and reaffirmed their resolved to improve ties between the two countries.
In the joint statement issued after summit-level talks held here between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the two sides reaffirmed their resolve to further deepen the Strategic and Global Partnership between the two democracies in Asia who shares universal values such as freedom, democracy and rule of law.
They also agreed to contribute jointly to the peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world, taking into account changes in the strategic environment.
Prime Minister Abe also elaborated his policy of "Proactive Contribution to Peace". Meanwhile Prime Minister Singh appreciated Japan's efforts to contribute to peace and stability of the region and the world.
They also expressed their intention to hold the 8th Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue at the earliest time in 2014.
The two leaders also welcomed the successful outcome of political exchanges, dialogues and policy consultations held after the visit of Prime Minister Singh to Japan in May 2013 and emphasized the importance of further progress in these bilateral exchanges.
They also welcomed the recent visit of Emperor and Empress of Japan to India and acknowledged that the visit further strengthened the long-lasting historically close ties and friendship between the peoples of India and Japan.
