Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar called on Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and held meetings with government officials here on preparations for the celebrations of 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2018.
Jaishankar met his Bhutanese counterpart Dasho Sonam Tshong and reviewed bilateral relations, including implementation of the ongoing Government of India assisted projects under Bhutan's XIth Five Year Plan, priorities of Bhutan for the XIIth Five Year Plan, trade and economic ties, hydropower cooperation, and people to people contacts.
He also called on former monarch Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, and Foreign Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji.
Both sides shared their perspectives on regional and other issues of mutual interest, which are based on deep understanding and mutual trust.
The visit of Foreign Secretary Jaishankar was in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between both countries to strengthen and expand unique ties.
