India and China have agreed to set up a military hotline that will connect the headquarters of the armed forced of the two respective countries.
"There was a remit that there should be more exchanges and interactions and the vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (Generals Fan Changlong or Xu Qiliang) will be visiting India, while the Defence Minister (Manohar Parrikar) has been invited to visit China," Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar told the media.
"There was an initiative that in our military-to-military cooperation, we should focus on humanitarian assistance in disasters and relief. We will be discussing the possibility that between the two militaries, this becomes a joint activity or exercise. There is also an agreement to activate a hotline between the military headquarters of the two countries," he added.
Jaishankar also informed that National People's Congress (NPC) standing committee chairman Zhang Dejiang will soon be visiting India.
