Emphasizing their commitment to a stable, united, prosperous, pluralistic and peaceful Afghanistan, India and Germany on Tuesday said that they saw the Heart of Asia-Istanbul process as the key to sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
In a joint statement issued after bilateral delegation-level talks here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said they supported a comprehensive and inclusive Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process.
They maintained that this would lead to the renunciation of violence and breaking of all ties to international terrorism and respect for the Afghan Constitution, including its human rights provisions.
They said the Heart of Asia-Istanbul process remains an important format for regional confidence building and regional political cooperation.
