Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is currently on a five-day state visit to India, has dubbed India as "an important partner in hardships," saying that Nepal considers trust as a pre-requisite to the relations with neighbouring countries.
"People of Nepal believes in Panchsheel-the five principles of peaceful co-existence -that are derived from the teachings of Lord Buddha, provides an enduring framework for managing harmonious interstate relations. I believe these principles make meaningful contributions in promoting peace, stability, security and development," Deuba said while speaking at a foundation event.
"Nepal's Foreign Policy priority towards its neighbours is that we consider trust as a pre-requisite to the relations. India-Nepal ties are unique in character and people of two countries share a special bond and affinity," Deuba noted.
"India is one of our most important partner and friend in hardships, need and people of Nepal are grateful of India's generous support. We also shares regional and global platforms as Nepal aspires to grow together with SAARC countries," he continued.
Prime Minister Deuba further noted that for many reasons, including the open border, Nepal and India have had important and significant relations. He also expressed gratitude towards the continued solidarity, goodwill and support extended by India to the socio-economic development endeavours of Nepal.
"From Ayodhya to Janakpur ,Pashupatinath temple to Kashi Vishwanath temple, Lumbini to Bodhgaya sister-city relations will enable the Nepalese and Indian cities to promote cultural exchange, sharing of knowledge and expertise as well as develop stronger people-to- people relations between them," Deuba said.
He added, "Given the mutual trust across wide spectrum, Nepal would never allow any activities against friendly neighbour India and there would be every support and cooperation from our side."

He also expressed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi special gratitude for the concern shown towards timely completion of the power transmission lines, Pancheswar project and other projects running with the support of the Indian government in Nepal.
PM Deuba said that Nepal was now looking forward to foreign direct investment in its water resources, tourism and other sectors as it moves ahead in the phase of economic development following political stability, with the implementation of the new constitution.
Also speaking at the press conference, Prime Minister Modi said that India was ever ready to support the greater development of Nepal and is always in favour of a prosperous and peaceful Nepal. Making a short speech in Nepali language at the onset, he said, "We are very happy to welcome Nepal's Prime Minister and the Nepali delegation to India.
