Market wisdom usually dictates against launching of new magazines and periodicals on grounds of commercial viability and more often than not promoter-related problems, but journalists and lawyers Pradeep and Rajshree Rai, through their magazine titled "India Legal", decided to take that leap of faith, and a year later are celebrating its rewarding and increasing acceptance, growth and progress.

The fortnightly magazine, which has attracted the participation and contribution of some of the finest writers, reporters and editors of the country, has in the last year, come out with authoritative, catchy, different, well investigated, researched and credible articles, debunking the initial response that it was simply a handbook or a digest meant for those in the legal profession.

In the year gone by, India Legal seems to have acquired a "collector's item status" creating a niche perspective of the law within the wider ambit of the general readership.

In the 24 issues that it has published and marketed, India Legal has been successful in covering a wide range of political, social and economic issues and writing on them within the legal framework.

For example, the magazine has come out with significant articles such as "How did Sunanda Pushkar die and backed it with exclusive photos." Other prominent articles that have appeared include "You need to fear, you are a man," on perceived sexual harassment and highlighting of possible loopholes in the new Criminal Law (Amendment) Ordinance 2013, or "CBI and politicians in a murky hawala deal," which examined daily hawala deals of Rs.5000 crores or the annual figure of Rs.18, 25, 000 crores, and that Delhi accounts for 10 per cent of deals, as also the legal provisions to curb hawala transactions, or " The inside story of IPL match fixing", and the cleaning of the River Ganga being Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biggest political challenge.

The magazine's has over the last twelve months created a unique slot for itself in the media space believing that law impacts every issue, event and story that the public hears, reads or sees on television. Its quest is to empower and enlighten citizens about issues that touch their lives.
