Senior Congress leader and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid on Sunday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Japan, but said there is a need to maintain good relations with China and Korea as well.

"When India's Prime Minister goes for any visit then the entire nation is with him, they greet him and with all the faith say we wish that he will keep up our national flag. That is a different thing how they (BJP) used to react when our PM used to go on such visits but we will not follow that path. He has good wishes from the entire nation," Khurshid told ANI here.

"However, it is necessary to work with due deliberations on our foreign policy. We want good relations with Japan but at the same time we need to maintain our relations with China and Korea as well. We also hope that Modi moves ahead with the same motive," he added.

Prime Minister Modi is currently on a five-day bilateral visit to Japan. He is being accompanied by a high-level delegation, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh.
