India offers 180 scholarships to Sri Lankan students

The Indian High Commission has said in a statement that the Government of India has offered 180 scholarships for Sri Lankan candidates to follow undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. degrees at some of the leading universities in India.

These scholarships are available for study in all courses, except medicine, the high commission release said.

One hundred of the 180 scholarships are being offered under the Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme for all undergraduate courses, including engineering, science, business, economics, commerce, humanities and arts.

Fifty scholarships are being offered under the Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme for Masters Degrees in engineering, science, economics, commerce, humanities and arts. Preference would be given to the fields of engineering, science and agriculture.

Twenty five scholarships are being offered under the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme for undergraduate courses in information technology.

Five scholarships are being offered under the Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme for Masters and PhD Degrees in all subjects except medicine.

According to the Colombo Page web site, all scholarships will cover full tuition fees for the duration of the course, in addition to a monthly sustenance allowance, an accommodation allowance and an annual grant for books and stationary.
