Union Communications and Information Technology (IT) Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today asserted that India is on the verge of a digital revolution which will be akin to the mobile phone revolution that took the country by storm.
"India is on the verge of a digital revolution. We want the digital revolution to spread in the same way in which the mobile revolution had spread in the nation," he said.
He also explained that to achieve the goal of digitalization of the country, the Central and state governments must work together without any political divide.
Prasad was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with IT ministers from across the nation in the Digital Media Program on Tuesday.
Informing about the government's initiative to enhance communication networks across the country, he said, "We are trying to improve the reach of broadband, provide Wi-fi in every university and connecting 'gram panchayats' with National Optical Fiber Network."
"As Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that IT plus IT is equal to IT which means India Today plus Information Technology equals India Tomorrow," Prasad further added.
