Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan Subrahmanyan Jaishankar and Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry met here today soon after the former's arrival in the Pakistan capital.
Tuesday's meeting was the first meeting between the two foreign secretaries since New Delhi called off talks in August last year after Pakistan's envoy to India held a meeting with Kashmiri separatist leaders at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Both foreign secretaries were expected to discuss issues related to the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation, besides issues of bilateral importance to both nations.
"I wouldn't like to speculate, but naturally the two secretaries will also discuss bilateral relations," said Pakistan Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam.
"We hope that this process can lead to the resumption of the Composite Dialogue," she added.
Jaishankar is in Islamabad after completing visits to Bhutan and Bangladesh. He will now travel to Afghanistan before returning to New Delhi.
