India rolls out its second fast patrol vessel

India launched its second waterjet-propelled fast patrol vessel here on Tuesday.

The vessel was inducted into the Indian Coast Guard by Defence Minister A.K. Antony.

Speaking on the launch ceremony, Antony said that it was designed at par with the international standards.

"Our ship building industry faces several challenges. It is satisfying to see that how SEDS (Smart Engineering and Design Solutions Ltd) designed the ship and executed it in an exemplary manner. The ship has been built to international standards and exhibited excellent sea keeping and...during trials," he said.

The vessel has a length of 50 metres. It displaces 290 tonnes of water and has an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles at an economic speed of 13 knots.

It has a gyro-stabilised 30-mm turret gun and many other advanced weapons. Its navigation and communication systems will enable it to perform multiple roles like surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and medical evacuation.

The ship is also features an integrated bridge management system and integrated machinery control system.
