India has been ranked No. 2 on the list of most dangerous countries for journalists this year, with Syria at first place.

The Dawn reports that almost as many journalists have died in India this year as in war-torn Syria since January.

A survey by the International News Safety Institute (INSI) has revealed that eight journalists had lost their lives in Syria alone between January and June.

Nemi Chand Jain, a journalist from Chhattisgarh in central India, was found dead with his throat slit for being a police informer in February.

In May, three employees from a Bengali language daily were murdered by masked men who forced their way into their office. The incident was later declared a case of as mistaken identity.

Two Indian journalists were killed in accidents while on assignments, the report added.

Pakistan has been ranked as the third most dangerous country with five journalists killed in the first half of this year.

Egypt was declared as the fourth most dangerous country for journalists in 2013,with at least four killed since June.
