India-Singapore make joint declaration on Strategic Partnership

India and Singapore on Tuesday signed a joint declaration to elevate their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, aiming to deepen engagements in existing areas of cooperation.

The joint declaration made between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong aims at catalyzing new arenas that range from political, defence and security cooperation to economic, cultural and people-to-people contact.

As per the declaration, the Strategic Partnership is also a framework to contribute to greater regional stability and growth.

With an aim to further enhance defence cooperation, the two countries also made an agreement which will provide for the Defence Ministers' Dialogue, joint exercises between armed forces, cooperation between defence industries to identify areas of co-production and co-development.

The agreement was signed between Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and his Singapore counterpart H.E. Dr Ng Eng Hen.
