Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the ties between New Delhi and Colombo are set to grow to unprecedented levels, terming Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena's three-day official visit of India as 'wonderful'. e Prime Minister took to twitter to share the issues he discussed with the visiting dignitary.
"Wonderful to have President Maithripala Sirisena in India. India-Sri Lanka ties are set to grow further," he posted.
"President Sirisena and I discussed co-operation in several issues including trade, energy, culture and defence," he added.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi had referred to Colombo as a 'close neighbour and friend', adding that the goodwill and support of India will always be with Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, President Sirisena, who also received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated that through his trip, the two nations have strengthened their friendship, inviting Prime Minister Modi to Sri Lanka.
The two leaders also oversaw the inking of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of Nalanda University. The two sides also signed on cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy and on the Programme of Cultural Cooperation for the years 2015 to 2018.
This is President Sirisena's first overseas visit after assuming office.
