India is the worst offender of the local law as Facebook for the first time revealed how often countries had content removed from the site on grounds that it violates the law.

The social network, which has released its second global government transparency report, covering period between July and December of last year, reportedly ranks India as the worst offender of local law with 4,765 content restrictions.

According to the Verge, the social network said that most of the content restrictions are related to laws, which prohibit criticism of a religion or state.

Turkey, with 2014 pieces of content restricted, ranks second behind India followed by Pakistan at third rank with reportedly only 162 requests to have content hidden from users.

France and Germany reportedly also made the list with over 80 content restrictions.

Facebook said in a blog that they only restrict access to content in the requesting country adding that they do not remove content from their service entirely unless they determine that it violates their community standards, the report added.
