India-UAE discuss cooperation in trade & investment, 2 agreements signed

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj co-chaired the 12th Joint Commission Meeting with the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, where discussions were held on a number issues and two key agreements were also signed.

An agreement on Currency Swap was inked along with a Memorandum of Understanding on Development Cooperation in Africa.

"Advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. EAM @SushmaSwaraj & Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan co-chaired 12th India-UAE #JCM. Held exhaustive discussions on cooperation in energy, security, trade, investments, space, defence & consular, among others," Raveesh Kumar, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs tweeted.

The EAM reached Abu Dhabi late on Monday for a two-day visit, where she is slated to inaugurate the Gandhi-Zayed Digital Museum in the UAE capital, interact with the Indian diaspora and call on the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today, before emplaning for India.

The two countries are among each other's largest trade partners with bilateral trade amounting to USD 50 billion. Apart from being the sixth-largest source of India's oil imports, the UAE has a 3.3 million strong Indian community.
