The Indian Air Force (IAF) displayed its aerial strength ahead of its annual day celebrations here on Friday.
A team of pilots displayed aerial acrobatics in helicopters equipped with advanced technologies, two of which were Russian made.
Air commodore Umesh Kumar, Air Commanding Officer of 43rd Wing, said that the show was a curtain raiser to Air Force Day, and showcased helicopters that specialize in rescue operations.
"Today, was a curtain raiser for our Air Force day celebrations and towards that we just wanted to show you around and show you the capabilities of the Indian Air Force. Incidentally, today, you saw the display by the 'Sarang team helicopters', the advanced helicopters which has been serving the nation well. We recently saw its contribution in the Uttarakhand (rescue) operation as well," he said.
Air commodore Kumar also said that such shows are also aimed at attracting more youth to join specialized departments in the Air Force and help it fortify.
"It is not that the youth is not willing to join the Air Force, we have a lot of people and we are very selective in selecting the right people in the Indian Air Force and we have good equipment, we have good engineering expertise within the Air Force as well so there is no dearth of people joining but certainly we would like more people to volunteer," he added.
The Air Force would be celebrated on October 8.
