In another blow for India, archer Laxmirani Majhi was knocked out of the ongoing Rio Olympics after suffering a crushing 1-7 defeat at the hands of Slovakia's Longova Alexandra in the last-32 elimination round here on Monday.
Alexandra Longova made a superb start to the women's individual archery event by scoring a perfect 10 while the Indian archer could only score 8.
After losing the first set 25-27, Laxmirani could only manage to shoot 26 (8, 9, 9) in reply to the Slovakian second set score of 28 (9, 9, 10).
Laxmirani, who hails from Chittaranjan in Jharkhand, did manage to show some resistance in the third set under immense pressure when she scored the perfect 10 in the final arrow to tie at 26-26. Alexandra, however, led the game 5-1 after the third set.
The 27-year-old Indian, however, failed to capitalize on her third set draw and went on to lose the fourth set 24-27 as she knocked out of the competition with the final score reading 1-7.
Earlier, the Indian archery trio of Deepika Kumari, Laxmirani and Bombayla Devi bowed out of women's recurve team quarter-finals after going down 4-5 defeat against Russia in their nail-biting quarter-final clash here on Sunday.
Deepika and Bombayla will now aim to qualify further when they will play their respective last-32 elimination round of the individual women's recurve event on August 10.
