An Indian couple living in France is reportedly being probed by French authorities for neglect after their three small children were found living in appalling conditions in their flat.
The police have taken into custody the father, 33, and the mother, aged 27, on suspicion of depriving their children of care.
If found guilty, the parents will be sentenced to seven years in jail, along with a fine of 100,000 euros(138,000 dollars).
According to the BBC, social services found the undernourished children- a baby girl aged two and two boys aged five and six living in a flat in suburb of northern Paris.
The medical staff became suspicious after they noticed the mother's indifferent attitude towards the baby girl at the time of her birth on New Year's Eve.
The family has been reportedly residing in the seventh-floor flat in the deprived district of La Courneuve in the Seine-Saint-Denis suburb of Paris for six years.
