An Indian fisherman, who was re-arrested after he tried running from a Karachi prison in December 2013, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday.

Kishore Bhagwan Bahi tried committing jailbreak from the District Jail, Malir, and was among the 54 Indian fishermen who had been arrested by the Maritime Security Agency for straying into Pakistan's Exclusive Economic Zone.

According to the Nation, he was jailed on January 29 but escaped in February by climbing over a prison wall, which led to suspension of three jail policemen.

He was later rearrested by the PIB Colony Police of District East, Karachi, and again sent to jail.

There were unconfirmed reports that the victim was likely tortured to death by the jail officials and marks of torture were also found on his body, however jail officials termed his death natural.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy.

Doctors said they did not find any physical mark of torture on his body, but the final cause of his death could only be ascertained after carrying out the postmortem, the report added.
