The Indian Navy on Saturday said it had identified the bodies of six sailors who had died in the August 14 INS Sindhurakshak submarine disaster through DNA match-ups.

An Indian Navy release said the bodies would be flown to their respective hometowns from Mumbai on Saturday for last rites with full military honours.

So far, the bodies of eleven naval personnel have been recovered, and six of them have been identified.

The six deceased were accorded a guard of honour at INS Ashwini in Colaba here today. A wreath-laying ceremony was also held.

On August 14, there was an explosion on the Russian-made Kilo-class submarine.

The diesel-electric submarine was commissioned in the Indian Navy in 1997 at a cost of around Rs.400 crore and had gone through a Rs.450 crore extensive upgrade in Russia.
